In his book titled Angels, Billy Graham recounts a story in the early 1900's of a missionary in China named Marie Monsen. Miss Monsen stayed at a mission compound with hundreds of women and children. One night, they found themselves surrounded by bandits who threatened the possibility of a dangerous and even deadly attack. Miss Monsen, though tempted with fear by Satan, stood on the promises of God and prayed for their protection. Throughout the night she continued to minister and encourage the frightened women and children to trust in God's deliverance.
Although terrible things happened all around them that night, the compound was left unharmed. The following morning, three different nearby families stated they witnessed four people quietly standing on the roof of the compound all night. They inquired of Miss Monsen who these figures were, but Miss Monsen confirmed there had been no one on the roof.
No one except angels.
When Elisha and his servant were surrounded by the army of Syria, his servant counted thousands of the enemy and only two of them. It was easy to see that the odds were not good. However, Elisha assured his servant saying, “Don’t be afraid. The army that fights for us is larger than the one against us” (2 Kings 6:16 NCV). After Elisha prayed for his servant's eyes to be opened, his servant saw God's army of angels with chariots of fire that truly did outnumber the enemy.
God has assigned angels to work on our behalf. "All the angels are spirits who serve God and are sent to help those who will receive salvation" (Hebrews 1:14 NCV). We have an army on our side that will always outnumber the enemy. You are never left alone to fight your battles. The Creator of the universe and His army is on your side. Believe in His promises and speak His Word!
